About
Born in 1965 in Genoa, Marco Maroccolo has pursued diverse artistic and professional endeavours, including music, ancient literature, typography, and printing.
Currently active as a colorist in video and film production, Maroccolo continues to nurture his first passion: photography.
He began with landscape photography but quickly expanded his focus to the intricate details of architecture, interiors, and the depiction of works of art, both ancient and modern. His preference for black-and-white digital photography provides an ideal medium for exploring the subtle interplay of natural light in both expansive and intimate spaces.
One of his earliest portfolios, From Earth, From Heaven, which captures the statues of Genoa's Staglieno Cemetery, was published by the American magazine LensWork in 2010. The following year, LensWork also featured Lotus & Pyramid, a photographic series inspired by his collection of antique travel books about journeys to the Orient. Other notable projects include Kirchen in Südtirol, a photographic exploration of mountain churches in Südtirol, and Venice, Upside-Down Forest, a journey through Venice’s most hidden and lesser-known places.
Maroccolo personally oversees the post-production of all his images, crafting pigment ink prints that imbue the final work with a distinct artistic touch. In addition to creating bespoke images for collectors and galleries, he offers open and limited-edition prints of his works.
Beyond his artistic pursuits, Maroccolo is a sought-after lecturer and teacher. He frequently conducts workshops and lectures on photography, creativity, and art. He also serves as a consultant, offering expertise as a photo editor and curator for museums, galleries, and fellow photographers.
